Stormers and Buccaneers battle to the final whistle

Thursday 31st March saw the first ever league match to be played in Gibraltar for the new Super IVs League. 

Teams were announced at the Lord Nelsons on Tuesday with each team looking fairly even. The first match of the league was played between the Europa Stormers and the Gibraltar Bay Buccaneers. The match was contested well between both sides and the Buccaneers showed they had the upper hand in the physicality of their play but quick thinking from the Stormers kept them in the game. 

With the scores at 25-20 to the Buccaneers with only seconds left, the Stormers were awarded a penalty for offside and being meters from the line, crossed over for the try. 

The day was a great success with all players enjoying their new stash. There was a good mix of players on show and many introductions amongst team mates but the players all gelled well in the end.

Next Thursday 6th April sees the Rock Scorpions take on the Strait Sharks with a chance for either team to go top of the league after the first round of matches. Hopefully this match will also prove to be a well contested match with the scores going down to the wire.

Super IVs Launch Party this Tuesday 29th (6pm)

The registration process has been a fantastic success bar the one or two who are still not in the 21st century and still owe Moses a £5, aka Lyons.

All players are invited to the launch party on Tuesday 29th, from 6pm onwards. The event will be hosted at the Lord Nelson, home of Gibraltar rugby.

The captains/managers and Super IVs committee, will be meeting, Monday at the GRFU's posh new office (Lathbury Barracks) to thrash out the teams and ensure that all teams have an equal chance of winning.

The teams will then be announced on Tuesday night and members of the media will be there to photograph the teams and their new kits (team photo so please be sure to be there).

We will then go through the upcoming events and have a couple of team building exercises. Nothing too heavy booze wise as we know it's a school night.

The first game will be played Thursday 7:30 at the DTC. Please make sure you bring id along and for those of you who haven't played there before please be aware that no mettle studs are allowed but that there is a bar.

We are all looking forward to the tournament and it truly promises to be a success.

Big thank you to everyone who bothered to register. It makes the lives of those putting the Super IVs together a heck of a lot easier.
